Artist Statement

The digital process allows me to explore unconscious or intuitive directions very quickly that might take many days using traditional medium. I can play with color and shapes until I find a composition that interests me. It allows me to explore creatively and not fear mistakes. I love beginning a piece without knowing where it’s going to end up. I can start from a place of complete abstraction and chaos and watch beautiful patterns begin to emerge as I manipulate the shapes, flip them, combine them and rotate them. The individual patterns form relationships which guide me to see and push the composition of the whole piece.

Biography

Rick Church is a self-taught artist who has worked with watercolor, acrylics, and pencil but now works primarily with digital tools and medium. His topics are spiritual, metaphysical and symbolic.
